- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon of ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon of garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of cream
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Marination
In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, salt, and oil.
Cut the paneer into cubes and add it to the bowl of marinade. Mix gently to coat the paneer with the marinade.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the paneer.
Grilling the Paneer
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
Thread the paneer cubes onto skewers and grill for 3-4 minutes on each side, until they are lightly charred and cooked through.
Making the Gravy
Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
Add the cumin seeds and sauté until they begin to splutter.
Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they are golden brown.
Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
Add the finely chopped tomatoes and sauté until they are soft and pulpy.
Add the red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add the water and bring the gravy to a boil.
Reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the gravy thickens.
Add the grilled paneer cubes to the gravy and mix well.
Add the cream and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with naan or rice.
Putting it all Together
- Take the grilled paneer cubes off the skewers and add them to the tomato gravy. Gently mix the paneer cubes with the gravy, making sure each cube is coated well.
Allow the paneer cubes to simmer in the gravy for 2-3 minutes on low heat. This will allow the paneer to absorb the flavors of the gravy.
Once the paneer tikka masala is ready, garnish it with fresh cilantro and serve hot with naan or rice.
Tips for Making Paneer Tikka Masala
Use fresh paneer for the best taste and texture.
